How to Create Positive Affirmations That Work

Updated: 2 days ago

Self affirmations are really a thing, but I think we have overused the phrase so much that it no longer connects to the purpose it was set out to do. We tend to get an affirmation and create a religious ritual around it to the point where it becomes more about a ritual of affirmations, than speaking words of affirmation over ourselves. Some words have enough vibrational power to last for a week, months, or years, whereas others were only meant to provide positive vibrations for that day. For example, if you were hungry and ate, would you keep eating after you were full? No, you would stop once your hunger had been satisfied. To me, this is the purpose behind affirmations. They are to be used to meet a need, to speak to that part of you that needs to be reminded of who you are. Once the potency of that word or phrase has worn off, it is time to stop using it. Don't worry, you can use it again the next time you feel that your inner self needs that reminder. It is important to be in tune with what you spiritually need so you are aware of what you are lacking. This is where spending time, and feeling where you are mentally and spiritually, is very important. It is not to be rushed in time or effort. There are no deadlines here, just space and opportunity to connect/reconnect with your highest self. Explore what you are feeling, and make notes of words and/or phrases that connect you to a higher vibration. In this moment your inner self is telling you that this feels good, and it need more of this to continue feeling good. Sometimes, you may not connect to someone else's list of affirmations because it doesn't align with where you are at that moment and therefore defeats the overall purpose of the affirmation. Go within and find the word or phrase that sparks hope, excitement, and abundance, and make that your affirmative word or phrase. Release it when it has done what it was set out to do so you can make room for the next affirming action.
